Battle of Long Island Lessons on Divine Providence: Just after King George III received the Colonialists' Declaration of Independence, he was "fit to be tied." He mustered up England's finest war general, General Howe, along with over twenty-eight thousand British soldiers, and sent him to New York harbor to get the Americans to "surrender their foolish ideas of independence." Little did King George realize that the Patriots' stand against tyranny would be a resolute fight to the finish. By the latter part of August 1776, under General Washington's command, the Continental Army found themselves surrounded by General Howe's staggering forces. Only the providential intervention of a mighty God, as retold by "little Bear," could turn this inevitable disaster into the miracle of Long Island for the cause of liberty. (Suitable for all ages.) |
